Responsibilities
- Develop methods and GLP protocols for purifying novel insulins and their precursors
- Scale systems first for animal studies and eventually for clinical-scale production
- Perform assigned laboratory tasks safely, rapidly, and efficiently
- Optimize procedures and protocols to improve throughput;
- Write transferable, GLP-quality protocols
- Record results accurately and meticulously
Skills
- Excellent “hands” in laboratory protocols involving globular proteins
- Expertise with a variety of protein purification techniques: preparative HPLC, gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography, microfiltration, and other related techniques as applied to materials from microbial expression sources (secreted & inclusion bodies) and chemical synthesis, at scales from micrograms to grams.
- Deep knowledge of solid and liquid phase protein chemistry and of how proteins behave under a variety of laboratory conditions
- Experience with crystallization of bulk proteins desirable
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot HPLC and other purification systems and protocols
- Experience with overcoming bottlenecks in scaling protein purification methods
- Pharmaceutical formulation of proteins compounds a plus
- GMP experience with protein products a plus
- Good project planning and time management which lead to timely task completion
- Juggling several simultaneous projects
- Good listener. Strong, concise, and consistent written and oral communication
Background
- Must have 5 years in industry setting post PhD or MS degree
- At least 3 distinct, observable examples where achieved meaningful excellence
- At least 3 years work focused on protein purification techniques
- Must have a Ph.D. or MS in biochemistry or related science
